The field of media production combines technical expertise with creative work. However, like many professional fields in the STEM sector (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), the field of technical media design continues to be dominated by men. In order to change this situation in the long term, spark interest in this field among young women, and thus increase the proportion of women among sound professionals, the virtual event series “Women in Sound” was launched in early 2022. In this series of events, impressive “Sound Women” talk about their careers, their experiences, the highs and lows in their professional context, and the upheaval in media and audio technology.

  • Are women really emancipated with equal rights in our audio industry these days? Not just in terms of pay, but also in their roles as decision-makers and managers? Especially considering their sometimes enormous professional expertise and experience?
  • What role do stereotypes and sexism still play?
  • What advantages arise in audiovisual productions and events when women (can) work as equals and on an equal footing in teams and/or lead them.

This time, on Tuesday, February 11, 20256, Elettra Bargiacchi will talk about her experiences in the audio branch. Elettra is a freelance sound designer, composer, and sound engineer, and a member of VDT and AES Germany.
