The VDT Regional Group Berlin will be visiting the Berliner Philharmonie – one of the city’s defining concert halls and an exceptional place both acoustically and in terms of production technology. The focus will be on the characteristics of the hall as well as the production side of the Digital Concert Hall: How are concerts recorded, mixed and, for some time now, also produced and transmitted in Dolby Atmos?
The timing of this visit is also a little unusual: we will meet on a Thursday morning. This will certainly not be possible for all colleagues – but it may be particularly interesting for those who are often tied up with performances, productions or events in the evenings.

Date: Thursday, 24 September 2026, 10:00 We will gain insights into the video studio, where vision mixing, editing and cameras are handled, as well as one of the audio studios, where the audio control room for the Digital Concert Hall is located. Particularly exciting: a rehearsal by the Berliner Philharmoniker will be taking place at the same time. This means that we will not only get to know the building and its production facilities, but also gain insights into preparatory workflows – such as defining camera positions and creating presets. In addition, a short visit to the hall is planned during the rehearsal break, giving us the opportunity to experience the main auditorium as well. Discussion: Christoph Franke, Head of Audio Production, will provide insights into the audio recording side and the audio production workflows surrounding the Digital Concert Hall. Hannah Dorn, responsible for video production and herself vision director, will introduce us to the video production side. |
