Meeting of the Extended Executive Board
The Extended Board (EV) of the VDT is the body that nominates the person for the office of President before a Board election, according to the statutes. This evening, the PA is meeting on this topic. Internal event. Participation by invitation only.
The current Extended Board consists of the six board members Ulrike, Daniela, Christopher, Marcel, Jürgen and Jörn. The PA also includes the first leaders of the regional groups, i.e. Peter, Christoph, Robert, Andrew, Niels, Max, Christian and Johannes. The unit heads are represented by the unit coordinator André. In total, the PA therefore consists of 6+9 people.
Our right to vote for the Presidium differs from that of most other clubs. According to the statutes (§10.3), the president and the other board members are elected in two separate ballots. The procedure is then regulated in more detail in the election regulations, where §3.3 states that the candidate for the office of President must be nominated by the Extended Board at least three months before the Board election. The nomination requires a simple majority of the Executive Board and, irrespective of this, a simple majority of the other members of the Extended Executive Board.
Explanation:
The six Board members have already voted in favor of Ulrike's nomination at a Board meeting. Ulrike herself abstained from voting. This means that there are five yes votes from the Board, which corresponds to the criterion of a simple majority.
The nine remaining members of the Extended Board still have to vote on the nomination. This depends on the number of votes in favor. A simple majority of this sub-committee is achieved with five yes votes. Votes not cast – for example due to absence – or abstentions can therefore lead to non-nomination. In this voting procedure, they correspond to a “no” vote.
